SYNOPSIS
A six-year-old boy receives a summons from his mother within temple walls. She speaks of destiny, of burden, of a faith in crisis that only he can restore. Then she vanishes, leaving him alone with her words and nothing else. Years pass in poverty and struggle, but the boy never forgets. At sixteen, Rennyo leaves everything behind to pursue what his mother set in motion, traveling across medieval Japan to breathe life back into a Buddhism on the verge of collapse. What begins as a child's confused memory becomes a young man's consuming purpose. Along his journey, he encounters believers and skeptics, discovers the depths of his own conviction, and works to understand whether his mother's disappearance was abandonment or sacrifice.
