A down-and-out protagonist working rescue efforts in Minamisouma, a city in Fukushima prefecture, comes to know a robot. The story follows a group of children alongside that robot as they grow and form friendships. Local traditional crafts appear along the way, including Ouborisoumayaki pottery. Fukushima Gainax produced the series to promote the region's Innovation Coast initiative, which aims to revive industry and tourism after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. The result is a mecha adventure drama with a science fiction angle.
