In a prehistoric age when people live alongside dinosaurs, Ryuu is born with white skin, unlike the rest of his tribe. The elders leave the infant as an offering to a fearsome tyrannosaur, but an ape takes him in and raises him as her own child. His real mother abandons the tribe to search for him. Years later, Ryuu meets Ran, a girl who was sold to the tribe he came from. Angry to find him alive, the tribe tries once more to sacrifice him, this time by setting him on fire. Before they can, the tyrannosaur slaughters them, killing Ryuu's adoptive mother as well. Ryuu then sets off with Ran on a long journey to find his mother and Ran's younger brother Don, who was separated from her when they were small.
