The Sanada brothers anchor this chaos in a way that makes you actually care who wins the unification war. The action animation is rough enough that you'll notice it, but the character designs and game-fan pandering hit hard enough that you don't stop watching. This is a show that knows exactly who it's for and doesn't apologize for skipping everyone else.

Japan's long era of civil war is nearly over, and Toyotomi Hideyoshi stands one step from unifying the country. Only Odawara Castle still holds out, defended by Ujiyasu Houjou, known as the Lion of Sagami. Hideyoshi's own trained generals, Ishida Mitsunari, Katou Kiyomasa and Fukushima Masanori, fight at the front alongside Ōtani Yoshitsugu, Shima Sakon and Naoe Kanetsugu. Among the ranks are two young warriors of the Sanada family, the elder Nobuyuki and the younger Yukimura. As the deadlock starts to give way, Yukimura rides alone into the battle, and his brother goes after him. It is an action series set among surviving warlords heading toward a final confrontation, where a trusted ally can become the deadliest foe.
