The opening four episodes are so good they feel like a different show than what comes after, and every fan knows exactly which episode it stops clicking. Furuya's obsession with zombies becomes his excuse to be close to Rea without admitting he's fallen for her, and the show gets the awkward cruelty of that dynamic right in a way most romance comedies don't. The ecchi never drowns out the actual affection underneath it.

Chihiro Furuya is obsessed with zombies and has wanted an undead girlfriend since childhood. When his cat Baabu is run over, he sets out to brew a resurrection potion using an old occult book. While working on it, he meets Rea Sanka, a rich girl who shouts her frustrations about her stifling life into an old well. The two bond, and with poisonous hydrangeas from her family's garden, Chihiro manages to revive Baabu. Rea, hoping to escape her burdens, drinks the potion believing it will kill her. It does not, but when she later dies in an accident, she returns as a zombie. With Chihiro's help, Rea tries to adjust to undead life while he copes with her strange new cravings and the unexpected fallout of her transformation. The show mixes comedy, romance, ecchi, horror and the supernatural.
