Yuuji Sakai is an ordinary high school student until the day everyone around him freezes in place and he alone can still move. A Rinne, a being from a parallel world, starts devouring the people nearby and then turns on him, but a red-haired Flame Haze with a katana rescues him. She tells him the truth: the real Yuuji is already dead, and he is a Torch, a leftover of a human who will fade from memory. He is also a Mystes, a Torch carrying an unknown treasure that Crimson Denizens will try to take, so she stays to protect him. Coming to terms with his death, Yuuji decides to make the best of the time he has left. The film is a supernatural action fantasy with romance. It retells the events of the first novel, including scenes the TV series did not show, and covers the story's first arc through a recap and an alternate take on its later episodes.
