A four-dimensional love letter to Shibuya that collapses 10,000 years into a single crossing, pulling live-action and animation into the same frame to ask what a place actually is. It's a experiment that exists only for the people who walk through that intersection, a secret only Shibuya residents would recognize as theirs.

Shibuya Vernacular is a short special that begins at the very start of Shibuya Crossing, ten thousand years in the past. Billed as a four-dimensional short, it mixes animation with live-action footage. The piece belongs to a collaborative project led by Yoshitoshi Shinomiya. It was shown on the big screens above Shibuya Crossing, and a version made for YouTube was also released. A crowdfunding campaign accompanied the project, aiming to raise 1,800,000 yen for a mid-August exhibition of the production materials in Shibuya.
