The robot fights are window dressing. What actually destroys you is watching four broken people realize they're less alone than they thought. Dynazenon doesn't explain itself, and it doesn't care, it trusts you to feel what matters instead of understand what's happening. By episode 12 you're not cheering for giant robots. You're terrified of these kids having to go back to being isolated.

Yomogi Asanaka, a first-year at Fujiyokidai High School, meets a strange drifter named Gauma, who calls himself a kaiju user. Soon afterward a kaiju appears in a crowded part of the city, and Gauma summons a giant robot called Dynazenon to face it. The machine needs four people working together, so Gauma, Yomogi, his classmate Yume Minami, and Koyomi Yamanaka, a jobless man who happened to be nearby, end up in its cockpit. Chise Asukagawa is also caught up in the struggle against the kaiju. Their first battle sets them against kaiju eugenicists, kaiju users who control monsters for harmful ends, as they work to bring out Dynazenon's full power. The show blends mecha action with science fiction and romance.
