A kid who just wanted to watch stars becomes the only thing standing between a dying universe and total collapse. The animation doesn't just support the story, it carries the weight of it, making every transformation and every loss feel like it actually matters. Hikaru and Lala's bond is the real core, the thing that makes you believe a magical girl show can break your heart. The monster-of-the-week format wears thin by the end, but by then you've already stopped thinking about the formula. You're just watching two kids try to save something they've come to love more than themselves.

Hikaru Hoshina, an energetic middle schooler who loves space and the occult, meets the aliens Lala and Prunce and the small creature Fuwa. The 12 Star Princesses who kept the universe in balance were attacked by the Notraiders and scattered across space as the Princess Star Color Pens. Lala needs help finding these pens and locating legendary warriors called Precure to revive the princesses. When the Notraiders try to capture Fuwa, a creature central to the princesses' revival, Hikaru's wish to protect it brings her a Star Color Pendant and a pen. She becomes Cure Star, one of the very Precure Lala came searching for. Now Hikaru works to collect the scattered pens while raising Fuwa, fighting off the Notraiders and finding the rest of the Precure, as Lala and two other girls, Elena and Madoka, join her team. The result is a magical girl adventure with a science fiction bent, set on a scale as wide as the universe.
