The jealousy spiral between Nako and Uruka is the actual plot, not the mecha. Two girls tearing each other apart over someone they both want, dressed up as a cute comedy that never lets you forget how messy and real that kind of love actually is. The show knows exactly what it is: a romance between two girls where the Steel Angels are just an excuse for them to keep colliding, keeps apologizing, keeps reaching for each other anyway.
Set 75 years after the first series, this story centers on Nako Kagura, a high school student who hopes to become a cellist. She stumbles upon Kurumi Mk. II at her home and kisses her by accident, which makes Nako the Steel Angel's master. Her best friend Uruka turns jealous and will try anything to destroy Kurumi and reclaim Nako, even sending in her father's army of top-secret mecha. The trouble grows when Uruka awakens Saki Mk. II, and Karinka Mk. II arrives with her own plan to take Nako from Kurumi. The show mixes comedy, romance and sci-fi mecha action in a short-episode format.
