The sky lights up in ways no other mahou shoujo even attempts, and the OST doesn't just underscore the action, it IS the action. Every battle is a three-minute song that rewrites itself mid-verse, animation matching note for note. Season 1 was rough around the edges; this one is polished to a mirror shine. The plot is held together with duct tape and screaming, but when a villain's theme hits and the transformation sequence locks in, none of that matters anymore.
Three months after Hibiki Tachibana, Tsubasa Kazanari and Chris Yukine saved the planet from the Lunar Attack, the Symphogear wielders are still fighting the Noise. Now working with a joint Japanese-American research effort, they must escort a completed relic called Sacrist S to the American base at Iwakuni, until a nighttime Noise attack disrupts the operation. Soon after, at a concert Tsubasa shares with global star Maria Cadenzavna Eve, Noise appear again and Maria declares war on the world as Finé's successor. Her allies Kirika Akatsuki and Shirabe Tsukuyomi reveal Symphogear powers of their own, leaving the heroes unsure of what the newcomers truly want. The second season of the franchise pairs sci-fi action and drama with magical girl battles fueled by song.
