Each episode is a different animator's answer to the same question: what if Gurren Lagann existed somewhere else? The results are wildly uneven, sometimes cryptic, occasionally transcendent. You watch it not for plot but for eight different visions of what courage looks like when the rules change, and some of those visions will hit you harder than anything in the original series.

Parallel Works is an anthology of eight animated shorts that drop the cast of Gurren Lagann into alternate worlds. A different GAINAX animator handles each clip, and the contributors are Yoh Yoshinari, Hiroyuki Yamaga, SUEZEN, Keisuke Watanabe, Akira Amemiya, Ryouji Masuyama, Shin Itagaki and Hirokazu Kojima. Rather than telling one continuous story, the special offers separate segments linked by the familiar characters and shaped by the individual creator behind each piece.
