This is a show about the exact moment before you have to become an adult, stretched into 49 episodes of pure refusal. Tom and Huck aren't rebels with a cause, they're just kids who know school is a cage and the river is freedom, and they're going to squeeze every second out of that knowledge before the world narrows. The animation moves at their pace, loose and wandering, which means you're not watching a plot unfold so much as drifting alongside them, one mischievous day into the next. There's real melancholy underneath the fishing trips and tree-climbing. You know this life ends. The show knows it too. That's what makes watching them live it matter.
Adapted from Mark Twain's novel, this adventure drama centers on Tom Sawyer, a wild and mischievous boy growing up beside the Mississippi River in the mid 1800s. Orphaned, he lives with his younger brother Sid, their aunt Polly, who raises the boys as her own with real affection, and her daughter Mary. Tom would rather skip class than sit in school, and he fills his days with his best friend Huckleberry Finn: fishing, climbing trees, chasing wild pigs, playing pirates on the river and even riding a balloon. Amid all this fun, the two boys come across hidden gold.
