Lina doesn't save the world because she's noble, she saves it because there's money in it, and the show is funnier for that complete honesty. Every arc spirals into chaos because her actual plan is always worse than the threat she's fighting, and her party spends half their time stopping her from making things catastrophically worse. The magic system lets her blow things up in increasingly ridiculous ways, the banter between her and Gourry never gets old because their dynamic is built on genuine contempt, and by the end you realize the real adventure was watching four people who actively dislike each other somehow stumble into being essential to each other.

Lina Inverse, a sorceress who robs the rich and pockets the proceeds, is back on the road with Gourry Gabriev, a sword-wielding companion who is not very bright. In the kingdom of Xoana they run into old friends Zelgadis Graywords and Princess Amelia, and together they easily thwart the scheme of Xoana's king and his daughter to conquer the world. Zelgadis, a grim and brooding golem, turns out to be hunting for the Claire Bible, a legendary magical text he hopes will show him how to regain his human body. He objects, but the others join his quest anyway. As they puzzle over where to begin, they meet Xellos, a mysterious priest who says he might be able to help. The adventure mixes fantasy with plenty of comedy.
