Maria doesn't pretend this birthday party is about anything other than getting Basara and Mio together, and the show doesn't pretend it's about anything other than that either. The lust spell setup collapses into pure chaos because every character just wants something different, and the OVA lets it stay stupid instead of trying to manufacture a plot. This is what self-aware ecchi looks like: no apologies, no fake narrative scaffolding, just creative absurdity in service of the thing you came for.

Another ordinary morning in the Toujou home goes sideways when Maria, a mischievous succubus, engineers yet another misunderstanding between Basara and Mio, and Basara pays the price. Yuki takes it all in stride. School brings no relief, as Basara keeps landing in awkward predicaments until he winds up in the infirmary run by the nurse, Hasegawa Chisato. Back home, Maria turns to planning Mio's birthday, using the occasion and a lust spell to push Mio and Basara together.
