In Earthclear, God grants every person a role at birth, and that role largely decides who may hunt monsters. Eight roles such as Warrior, Cleric, Magician and Merchant qualify, while royalty, heroes and sages hold exceptional power. Villagers sit at the bottom: they farm, keep shops and build towns, and for them hunting is little short of suicide. Most people never get past Level 5. Then a two-year-old villager notices that slaying monsters can make a person rich. Kouji Kagami, a villager, somehow stands at Level 999. While hunting monsters he meets Alice, daughter of the Demon King, and learns they share the same unlikely hope that humans and demons might live side by side. In a world set on war, the two throw themselves into battle to break the rules fate has written. The series mixes action, adventure, comedy and fantasy.
