A kid who helps ghosts because he can't help himself from caring keeps running into problems that kindness alone can't fix. Tokyo in the 90s is a city designed to wear you down, and Subaru's warmth makes it worse, not better, every spirit he saves costs him something he can't get back. Subaru Sumeragi is sixteen and already heads the Sumeragi clan, a powerful line of onmyouji. In 1990s Tokyo he deals with ghosts and spirits, taking on some cases for clients and stepping into others on his own, with help from his twin sister Hokuto and their veterinarian friend Seishiro Sakurazuka. Hokuto keeps trying to pair her brother with Seishiro, who is always free to tag along, though he may be concealing something sinister. Subaru feels other people's pain as if it were his own, and the polluted, self-serving city carries a desperation that threatens to wear down his spirit. Expect a dark supernatural drama with psychological and thriller elements, adapted from a Clamp manga.
