Ichigo's transformation into a cat-girl hero never stops being goofy, even when the stakes genuinely matter. The show swings hard between "we're fighting aliens" and "did you see how embarrassed she got," landing both without apology. It understands that magical girl powers are funniest when they happen to the most ordinary person in the room, and it builds an entire series around that one joke that somehow never gets old.

After their victory at Tokyo Tower, the Mew Mew girls get a short break from fighting. Spliced with the DNA of endangered animals, these heroines wield special powers, and Ichigo draws on the skills of an Iriomote cat. Ichigo is thrilled to finally be dating Masaya Aoyama now that the two have confessed their feelings, but the peace does not last, and the team is soon battling the Chimera Anima again. When a fight turns dangerous, a mysterious Blue Knight rescues Ichigo, declares he was born to protect her, and vanishes. With the world at stake and his identity unknown, the girls struggle to balance fighting aliens with their own lives. The season mixes magical girl action with comedy and romance.
