Leon gets framed and conscripted into the worst assignment imaginable: lead a team into the Wastelands, the irradiated ruins of what Japan used to be two centuries ago. Command doesn't expect anyone to walk back out. The mission objective is cryptic and terrifying in equal measure: find and retrieve something called Tsugumi, a weapon dangerous enough that losing it nearly destroyed civilization. What waits beyond the barrier are things that shouldn't exist. Massive mutated creatures roam the poisoned landscape, each one lethal enough to tear through a squad. Leon's team is expendable by design, chosen from soldiers with nothing left to lose and records Command is happy to erase. But as they push deeper into hostile territory and encounter increasingly strange phenomena, Leon realizes the official story about this place doesn't add up. The real truth about Tsugumi, about the Wastelands, and about why he was really sent here runs far deeper than anyone in Command wants exposed.
