Uru in Blue is a science fiction film conceived as a sequel to Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise. Its story takes place five decades after the earlier film and centers on a band of fighter pilots. Gainax first began planning it in 1992 but halted work the following year when a feature proved too costly. The project was revived in 2013 with Hiroyuki Yamaga writing and directing and Yoshiyuki Sadamoto designing the characters. Studio Gaina later took over production, and Yamaga was reported as still working on it at the end of 2022.
