A kid and a demon forced into the same fight because the alternative is worse. They hate each other at first, actually hate each other, not in the way anime usually means it. By the time you realize they're becoming something like friends, the show has already made you believe a 500-year-old monster would actually die for a middle schooler who annoys him constantly. The comedy lands because the relationship is real before it becomes heartfelt. Season 2 doubles down on the absurdity of two fundamentally incompatible beings learning to trust each other in the middle of chaos.

The second season of Ushio and Tora continues the supernatural action comedy. Centuries ago, a samurai sealed away a savage monster using the legendary Beast Spear. Five hundred years later, middle school student Ushio Aotsuki stumbles on the creature in a hidden cellar beneath his family's temple, a legend he had dismissed as nonsense when his father told it. The freed monster and the spear draw other spirits to the temple, and to protect his friends and family, Ushio is forced to release the monster. He calls it Tora, and the two reluctantly join forces to fight the spirits and demons that come for them.
