Late 1980s Misaki town harbors secrets beneath its ordinary surface. Aoko Aozaki is suddenly thrust into the world of magi when her grandfather names her heir to the Aozaki family, which oversees the land Misaki stands on. She moves into an old mansion rumored to house a witch and begins studying magecraft under Alice Kuonji, the young magus said to be that witch. Mysterious intruders are disrupting the bounded field around Misaki, and when the two investigate, a puppet attacks them and is burned to ash. Someone sees the magic and flees, a civilian who cannot be allowed to get away. Soujuurou Shizuki, a boy who also witnesses the pair using magecraft, is made to live in the mansion with them until they can find a rune to erase his memories. The film mixes action, drama and fantasy.
