Mari doesn't fall for the beastfolk boy because of fantasy worldbuilding or cute animal ears. She falls for him because he shows up, stays steady when everything around them pushes back, and actually listens. The show knows the difference between romance and infatuation, and it spends twelve episodes proving it. Prejudice isn't a plot device here, it's the weight both of them carry, and watching them choose each other anyway, over and over, is what makes this land.

Running late for school one morning, high schooler Mari collides with another latecomer and learns that he is a beastfolk who is about to become a student at her school. Beastfolk living among humans is not unheard of, but prejudice keeps it uncommon, and Mari is uneasy about meeting one at first. As she gets to know him, she sees past his furry appearance and finds herself increasingly drawn to his steadfast nature, his kindness and his physique. Adapted from Yuzuki Chihiro's manga, the story is a fantasy romance drama.
