It puts you in the passenger seat of a world that decided humans shouldn't drive anymore, then hands you the one crew still allowed to. This is the prequel run, Nina and Rei working the eX-D beat years before Lisa and Lorna show up, chasing an AI car that has quietly stopped obeying anyone. The sound design is the real flex: engines that actually breathe, downshifts with weight behind them, and an English dub that treats the material with more conviction than the script strictly earns. The art holds up too, clean lines and cars drawn like someone in the room owned a service manual. Be honest with yourself though, the story is thin next to the series and the movie, and if you came off those expecting escalation you'll feel the drop. Watch it for the machines and the noise they make, not the mystery.

A hundred years from now, people get around in AI cars: electric vehicles run by computers that carry riders wherever they want to go on their own.
