Blassreiter starts as a procedural about motorcycle cops fighting corpse-machines, then quietly becomes a meditation on what makes a life worth saving. The CGI is dated enough to distract in early episodes, but by the time you realize the show is actually about redemption through sacrifice, you've already stopped noticing. It builds toward an apocalyptic scope that earns its weight because every character decision, even the small ones, costs something real.

In a fictional Germany, corpses rise as Demoniacs, biomechanical creatures that attack people without thought. They can merge with most technology, such as cars and motorcycles, taking control of the machines and greatly boosting their performance. Opposing them is XAT, the Xenogenesis Assault Team, which polices the Demoniacs to keep the peace while trying to learn what causes the change. Meanwhile, a number of humans turn into Demoniacs themselves. Some use their new powers for good, while others turn to evil. One of them is Joseph Jobson, who has full control over his abilities and becomes a priority target for XAT after a run-in with the newly turned Gerd Frentzen. Among all these beings, one will rise above the rest to become the Blassreiter, and the action sci-fi mecha story builds toward that figure.
