This isn't a music video pretending to be something larger. It's seven lives compressed into four minutes, each one a small goodbye disguised as adventure. The pixel-3D hybrid doesn't feel nostalgic for its own sake; it captures something true about memory, how the past exists in lower resolution, how we move through it in fragments. You watch people you'll never meet again walk through worlds that already don't exist. The song doesn't explain what's happening. Neither does the video. You just feel it leaving.
Seven characters journey across space and time through an RPG-style fantasy world, retracing the stories of their own lives. Director Yoshihito Katou renders their travels in a style he calls 3D-Pixstalgic CG, merging pixel art with three-dimensional computer graphics to give the adventure a nostalgic, new wave feel. The short music video accompanies Hatena's song Yume ja Nai, which also served as the second ending theme for the anime Taisou Zamurai.
Streaming Yume ja Nai legally, as of the last catalog refresh. Availability changes by region.
