The trilogy doesn't build to a twist or a revelation. It builds to a choice, and you watch these girls make it knowing exactly what it costs them. The final movie strips away everything except the people you've learned to love over two films, then asks what you would do if saving the world meant losing yourself. This is mahou shoujo that earns its tragedy because it never separated the magic from the girl underneath it.

Yakusoku is the concluding installment of the three Washio Sumi no Shou films, a trilogy within the Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru franchise. Released in 2017, the movie brings that trilogy to its end with a blend of action, drama and fantasy in the magical girl mold, with slice of life moments woven in. As the last of the three, it follows two earlier films, which are best seen first.
