A magical girl show that refuses the genre's most basic promise: these girls don't transform to save the world, they transform to save a script. The disconnect between what mahou shoujo is supposed to be and what this actually does, ordinary problems wrapped in extraordinary powers, is the entire point. You're watching kids weaponized by circumstance, not destiny, which means every monster fight is just another thing that got in the way of finishing homework. Haruka Hani, a second-year student at Hinomori Gakuen junior high, belongs to the drama club and has been writing the play it will stage at the coming school festival. The script keeps stalling, and Tamaki Teijou, her friend since childhood, nags her to get it done. Every so often, creatures known as Zaiju, the Beasts of Sin, strike her hometown of Hinomori, and the Heart Princesses step in to defend it. Haruka looks up to these guardians and dreams of joining their ranks one day. Then, while she is at home working on her script, a strange cat called Jin appears, tells her she has the makings of a princess, and invites her to become one. The special mixes magical girl elements with sci-fi and supernatural ones.
