Anime Like After-school Hanako-kun
This is pure fanservice, and it knows exactly what it's doing. Hanako and Nene have actual chemistry when the stakes disappear, and watching them bicker over nothing hits different than solving mysteries in the main series. The animation gets genuinely creepy in moments that have nothing to do with horror, which sounds contradictory until you see it. You need to know the characters already or this will feel like walking into someone else's inside joke. Four episodes isn't enough, mostly because the silly premise works better than the drama-mystery balance the main series was chasing. This is a show built for people who would rather see Hanako annoyed about afternoon chores than possessed by ancient curses.
SYNOPSIS
Hanako, the mischievous ghost who haunts Kamome Academy's bathrooms, and Nene, his surprisingly patient human partner, usually spend their days fixing supernatural problems. But what happens when the weird incidents stop coming and they actually have free time on their hands? This four-episode series takes a lighter turn, following the unlikely duo as they kill time between hauntings. Hanako drags Nene into bizarre schemes, tests her patience with supernatural pranks, and generally acts like a ghost who's been trapped in a bathroom for way too long and doesn't quite understand how normal people work. Nene, meanwhile, just wants a break, but keeping up with Hanako means her downtime is anything but quiet. It's pure comedy wrapped in supernatural wrapping. The show leans hard into the chemistry between its two leads, letting their dynamic carry absurd scenarios that shouldn't work but somehow do. Perfect if you want something short, silly, and free of heavy plot demands. Just two characters goofing off in a haunted school, and somehow that's enough.
