Yuri's chaos without the existential dread. These specials let the cast be ridiculous in ways the main series couldn't afford, which means you get pure comedy timing and character chemistry that the weekly episodes had to bury under plot. The second one stumbles when it forgets who these people actually are, but the first nails exactly what fans wanted: more of them, less theology.
Yuri Nakamura, leader of the Shinda Sekai Sensen, hatches another plan in their ongoing rebellion against God. In the first special, the group carries out Operation High Tension Syndrome, a scheme to convince student council president Kanade Tachibana, thought to be tied to God, that they are ready to pass on. A week of food rides on the outcome, with Heaven as the final goal. The second special, Hell's Kitchen, is a separate unaired episode. Both are extras released with the home video editions, mixing action, comedy and drama in a supernatural setting.
