A five-year-old finds a door in her bedroom floor and steps into a world where three talking animals become her entire world, and the show never stops believing that matters. The panda is too gentle, the bear is trying too hard, the rabbit is selfish. Ami just keeps showing up anyway. This is a show built entirely on the quiet magic of being small enough to think that friendship can fix anything, watched by people who still believe it might.
Five-year-old Ami discovers that a hidden door beneath her bedroom floor leads to Animal Yokocho, a strange world where animals live. On her first day in the new house, three talking animals climb out of it: Issa, a gentle and innocent panda; Kenta, a hot-headed bear with a perpetual tough exterior and an obsession with his red scarf; and Iyo, a self-centered rabbit more concerned with her own comfort than her friends' wellbeing. Despite her young age, Ami proves to be the most level-headed of the group, though she approaches their new friendship with understandable caution at first. Before long she is spending her free time with her peculiar visitors, keeping them a secret from everyone. Their days revolve around simple pastimes and games, but the Animal Yokocho version of any game tends to be far less logical and far more dangerous than the ordinary one. Ami often ends up as the voice of reason among companions prone to overreaction and selfishness, and more odd creatures from the other side of the door soon begin to show up.
