This is the 45-minute cyberpunk artifact that everyone who loves the 2004 CG remake owes a debt to, and it hits like a cold slab of 1988 airbrushed concrete. Deunan Knute and Briareos work Olympus like beat cops in a city that has already won the war, and the show keeps quietly asking whether a paradise run by a supercomputer and staffed by engineered Bioroids is a home or a very comfortable cage. Briareos is the reason you remember it: a boyfriend who is three quarters hardware, rabbit-ear sensors and all, playing straight man to Deunan's trigger finger. The villains aren't monsters, they're humans who cannot stand being managed, and the OVA lets that argument stand on its own feet. Yes, the execution is flatter than Shirow's ideas deserve, and the pacing stalls in the back half. Watch it for the hand-inked hardware and that gorgeous, sterile, sunbleached skyline nobody draws anymore.

After a third world war leaves Earth in ruins, Olympus rises as humanity's last city. Half its population consists of Bioroids, genetically engineered clones who run the city's administration, and a supercomputer named Gaia oversees daily life. The calm is only skin deep, though. Terrorists inside the military want to seize power again, and crime is climbing. Standing against them are the renowned soldier Deunan Knute and her partner Briareos Hecantochires. As members of Olympus' Enhanced SWAT unit, the pair take on the city's most violent cases in a mecha-driven sci-fi action OVA.
