This is a character-driven comedy that knows exactly what it's selling: two girls with completely opposite energy levels forced to work together, and the chemistry between them carries everything. Aria's deadpan exhaustion at her E-rank student's unshakeable optimism is the entire show, and it works because neither of them breaks character for a joke. The story falls apart in the second half and the tonal whiplash is real, but by then you're already watching for the dynamic, not the plot.

Akari Mamiya is a first-year at Tokyo Butei High School, where specially authorized students carry weapons, investigate crimes and handle all kinds of incidents. She worships Kanzaki H. Aria, an S-rank second-year, and wants to become an elite Butei like her, but Akari is only E-rank and keeps failing her rank exams. Against her friends' advice, she asks to become Aria's Amica, a junior partner under a senior's mentorship. To everyone's surprise, Aria sets her a test, and Akari passes it. Still, Aria will not make the arrangement official until Akari proves herself, so she must train hard while keeping up with her friendships. Meanwhile, Aria senses something mysterious in Akari's past. The series mixes action, adventure and comedy.
