Anime Like Astro Boy (2003)
A robot built to replace a dead child learns he'll never be what his creator wanted, then spends fifty episodes choosing to matter anyway. SYNOPSIS
A powerful robot boy awakens to a world that fears him. Created by scientist Dr. Tenma as a replacement for his deceased son, Atom possesses abilities no machine should have: superhuman strength, flight, and an artificial mind that grows and changes like a human child's would. When his creator abandons him, Atom finds refuge with Dr. Ochanomizu, who enrolls him in school under the guise of normalcy. But normalcy is impossible. Humans resent him for what he is. Robots malfunction into weapons. Atom stands caught between two worlds, rejected by both, forced to use his incredible powers to protect people who often despise him in return. As he fights alongside the police to stop renegade machines and prevent human cruelty, Atom begins searching for answers about his origins. What does it mean to be a son when your creator discarded you? Can a machine ever truly belong in a human world? Atom's journey asks whether compassion can survive in a society built on fear and prejudice.
