Black Cat Detective moves like a 1960s crime procedural drawn frame-by-frame with actual care for how light hits fur and fabric. The animation itself is the investigation, patient and observational in a way modern shows have forgotten how to be. Audio sync issues and missing sound design hurt, but they can't touch what's here: a detective story that trusts you to read the image instead of the soundtrack.

Officer Black Cat keeps order in a forest neighborhood, tracking down criminals, handing out justice and cracking the crimes that come his way. Each of the five episodes of this short action TV series centers on the feline officer's adventures as he brings wrongdoers to account and keeps his woodland beat safe.
