It weaponizes a cat's hurt feelings against you for twenty-odd minutes, and you let it. Kuro sulking off to find a master who isn't Rin is the kind of low-stakes premise that only works if the show actually loves the character, and this one does. The comedy-to-ache ratio lands exactly where early Blue Exorcist lived, goofy right up until the moment the two-tailed demon cat's loyalty stops being a joke. The art doesn't coast either, it's the same polish the main series wore, spent entirely on a familiar throwing a tantrum. Be honest about what it isn't: no new backstory, no expansion of what you already know about Kuro and the master he lost, and the runtime taps out before it can dig. It's a snack, not a meal, but it's a snack about a cat deciding who he belongs to.

Kuro has had enough of feeling brushed aside by Rin, so he sets out to look for someone new to serve as his master. The question hanging over his search is whether anybody else could really take Rin's place in his life. This single-episode OVA from 2011 mixes action, comedy, fantasy and supernatural elements, and puts Kuro at the center of a light side story.
