A cube covered in landscape photographs appears to turn endlessly, even though it actually rotates only a quarter-turn. Takashi Ito builds the film from frame-by-frame shots of the box, using the same trick he employed in his earlier work SPACY. The film works as pure cinema, asking your brain to reconcile what it sees with what it knows is possible. By shifting between three dimensions and a flat plane and back again, it sets out to unsettle how the viewer perceives space. The effect is hypnotic and slightly disorienting, cinema reduced to image, motion and the gap between perception and reality.
