A loser wakes up as a pig and somehow becomes the only person who can save a girl from her own cursed fate. The show tricks you into thinking it's a dumb premise comedy, then episode eight rips that safety net away and you realize you've been watching something genuinely dark the whole time. Animation tanks hard near the end, but by then you're too invested in whether this pig-man actually has the wisdom to break a cycle that's been grinding people to dust for generations.

A slovenly otaku collapses mid-meal on raw liver and wakes up as a pig. Not metaphorically. Actually a pig, with hooves and a snout and all the indignities that entails. His only companion is Jess, a guileless girl with the unfortunate ability to hear every gross thought bouncing around in his porcine head. Somehow she accepts him anyway, even if she does intend to eat him eventually. What starts as an absurd fish-out-of-water comedy quickly tangles into something darker. Jess belongs to the Yesma, a class of mind-reading servants who face prejudice every day, and Pig comes to suspect she is in more danger than she realizes. He would like to reach the royal capital and ask the king to make him human again, but he cannot bring himself to abandon the girl who took care of him. His only real tools are quick wits, some wisdom and a very good sense of smell. The show balances genuine stakes against relentless comedy, never quite letting you settle into what genre this really is.
