In the romantic Taisho era, Unzen, Sukayu, Unohana, Oshamanbe and Aso are five supposedly ordinary students at Binan High School. They share the Kurotama dormitory and spend their days idling in the Earth Defense Club, a club that does nothing at all. During a morning soak in the dorm bath they catch something slimy in the water, and it turns out to be Nuru, a talking Pallas's cat from the far future. Nuru says Earth faces destruction, but he has only come to warn them, and whether to fight is their call. The suspicious club members wonder if he is just ducking responsibility, while Unzen happily signs on because it sounds stylish. Choosing of their own free will, the five are turned into the Haikara Romantic Troupe through feline science. In the shadows, a mysterious trio called the Bankara New Elite Squad plots to take over the world. The result is a comedic magical-boy spin on the genre with sci-fi touches.
