Since ancient times, two tarot decks have held sway over the world. The Diablos Tarot feeds on the souls of the living to cause suffering, while the Elemental Tarot draws on the power of nature to resist it. Girls from 22 bloodlines wield the Elemental Tarot in a hidden war. Akari Taiyou, an apprentice fortune teller who lost her mother young, lives with her aunt, uncle and their daughter Fuyuna. One night she dreams of a plant monster, then wakes to learn the creature was Fuyuna, whom her family soon forgets entirely. After another brush with a similar monster, Akari is saved by Ginka Shirokane, Seira Hoshikawa and Luna Tsukuyomi of the Sefiro Fiore organization, who battle creatures called Daemonia. Akari learns that she has inherited her mother's power of The Sun card. She also learns that Daemonia are possessed people, and she has to choose between saving what remains of them and destroying them. The result is an action magical girl series about girls who carry heavy guilt and wonder whether they are saviors or executioners.
