The necromancer in a salaryman's body keeps playing chess against three factions who don't know the board yet. Every faction thinks they're hunting the same target; every faction is actually hunting something different. The show doesn't stop moving long enough to let you catch up, which is either infuriating or exactly the point depending on whether you trust it, and the soundtrack makes you trust it even when the animation cuts corners. This is what happens when Narita gets to write the mystery instead of just the characters. By the time you realize someone lied about their entire motivation, you're already three moves behind, same as everyone else.
In the second cour of this dark fantasy thriller, Polka Shinoyama's life changes sharply after circumstances push him to use his magic in front of others. The fortune-telling booth he runs draws several people determined to prove that he is the reborn Corpse God, a necromancer from another world. Things grow worse when Polka and his companions are accused of killing a worker employed by the person who shelters them. After Takumi Kuruya is kidnapped by Kuon Higuro, the man he once worked for, Polka sends Misaki Sakimiya, the ally he trusts most, to bring him back. As several recent incidents turn out to be linked, Polka must tread with extra caution if he hopes to survive.
