In a Japan from the days before cell phones, when every call traveled through utility poles, Elemi is one of the many poles serving a small city, known for being a diligent, reliable worker. During a repair, she is moved by Takahashi, the young electrician who fixes her, and falls for him. Posing as a human, she starts phoning him again and again, though the law of power poles forbids such contact. Word of her romance soon spreads across town, and the older poles press her to end it. Eventually she is called before a court, and even if her own kind accepts her, she must still find a way to tell Takahashi what she really is. This is a fantasy film about a forbidden, ill-fated love between a utility pole and the man who maintains the lines.
