Dr. Raichii's revenge plot is almost quaint next to what DBZ usually throws at you, which means the OVA gets to mess with the formula in ways the series never could. The animation is rough enough that it feels like watching someone's bootleg VHS of a fever dream, but that's part of the charm when Trunks is out here making icicle swords and the entire cast is shuffling through 72 hours of setup with the energy of a side mission. This is a show for people who've watched everything else and want to see what DBZ looks like when it stops trying so hard.

Dr. Raichii is thought to be the last survivor of the Tsufurujin, a race the Saiyans wiped out many years ago. He wants revenge on the only Saiyans still alive, Goku and Vegeta. To get it, he deploys machines that release destron, a gas capable of destroying all life on Earth. The Z warriors are left with 72 hours to track him down and destroy him before the gas does its work. The two-episode OVA mixes sci-fi adventure with comedy.
