Mashima learned nothing from Fairy Tail except how to do it better. The formula is identical, ragtag crew, found family, power-of-friendship climaxes, but transplanting it to a genuine space opera removes the safety rails of a single continent and lets the scale actually breathe. Every character design screams early 2000s anime in the best way possible, and the animation finally matches the ambition Mashima's always had but couldn't quite reach before. This is comfort food for people who grew up on shounen but need their adventure to feel massive again, not nostalgic.

Shiki has spent his whole life among machines in Granbell Kingdom, a long-abandoned amusement park where he is the only human. Everything changes when Rebecca Bluegarden and her cat companion Happy turn up at the gates, not realizing they are the first visitors Granbell has seen in a hundred years. They came to shoot fun videos for their B-Cube channel, and instead they befriend the socially awkward Shiki. When his old home turns dangerous, the three escape on Rebecca's spaceship into the Sakura Cosmos. Rebecca and Happy hope to film more interesting videos and to find the elusive goddess Mother, whom no one has ever seen. Shiki, moved by the words of his late grandfather, wants to make more friends. The result is a space adventure from Hiro Mashima, the creator of Fairy Tail, that mixes action, comedy and science fantasy.
