Masaki and Harumi's chemistry crackles because they're both too weird to function in the real world, so they decide to blow up a tower instead. FLCL does what it does best: takes the specific loneliness of not fitting in and turns it into something loud, absurd, and weirdly touching. Three episodes is barely enough time to care this much about two misfits solving their problems with surrealist violence.

FLCL: Shoegaze is the fifth season of FLCL, following FLCL: Grunge, and takes place ten years after FLCL Alternative. Masaki is a high school boy whose unusual background and personality make it hard for him to fit in with his class. Then he meets Harumi, a girl who is even more eccentric than he is. She offers a way to lift his worries: bombing the Tsuganei Tower. Across three episodes, the story blends action and comedy with mecha and science fiction.
