Tank combat at feature film budget and runtime means the action sequences operate at a different scale entirely from the TV series. The movie spends 75 minutes doing what it does best: building absurd tactical scenarios, then executing them with animation that makes every shell casing and turret rotation count. Story is almost beside the point. You're here to watch a high school girl figure out how to win a tank battle that shouldn't be winnable, and the film knows exactly how much spectacle you came for.

Miho's school is facing demolition. The Ministry of Education has gone back on its promise to keep Ooarai Girls Academy open, and with their floating campus slated for the scrapyard, the girls' tankery team has one final shot at salvation: win a match against a university squad that is larger and far more experienced. Lose, and their tanks are forfeit along with any hope of keeping their school alive. The problem is immediate and brutal. Ooarai's crew may have won the high school tournament, but their new opponents draw the most talented students from across the country. On paper, the outnumbered students don't stand a chance. Yet Ooarai has more friends and allies than anyone expects, as former rivals and new friends from other high schools rally behind Miho's team. What happens when teamwork and camaraderie face off against overwhelming odds becomes the real question.
