Goal Kitagawa has one month to win a single game before he leaves the team forever. Twenty-two losses straight, and the adults have stopped pretending this ends in triumph. A youth soccer team, the Koganedai Downtown FC Golden Kids, has never won a game since it was formed. Goal Kitagawa, their captain and goalkeeper, is moving away next month and is set on earning one victory with his current teammates first. Instead they lose badly again, and the losing streak reaches twenty-two games. The adults in the community who back the team start to lose patience. At school the players are picked on and bullied, and the grown-ups fear it will get worse. As the team sinks into gloom and loses the will to play, they spot Goal practicing outside, quietly pushing himself as hard as he can. His example sends them back to hard training. Their next match is against the Wild Tigers, the second strongest team in the Jonan League, while the adults weigh what should become of the team.
