Born beneath tombstones to a father already half-gone, Kitaro walks the line between two worlds. He is a youkai boy and, apart from his decayed father, the final surviving member of the Ghost tribe. With one eye missing and hair that conceals his hollow socket, he is marked by his own nature, yet determined to keep the peace between youkai and humanity, which usually means shielding people from the tricks of other youkai. Drawn from the original Hakaba Kitaro manga that later gave rise to Gegege no Kitaro in the late 1960s, this 2008 TV run of 11 episodes leans into horror and the supernatural.
