Hiroko is a woman who becomes a different person at work, and the show knows the cost of that trade doesn't disappear just because you clock out. Her boyfriend is the same way, which means their relationship is two people passing each other in the hallway of their own lives. The real cruelty isn't that ambition and love are incompatible, it's that they both matter, and choosing one always means losing ground on the other. This show doesn't solve that problem. It just watches a woman live inside it, honest and tired and still trying.
Hiroko Matsukata lives for her job at a magazine company, shifting into an unstoppable burst of productivity whenever a story has to be finished. She is a 28-year-old editor, blunt and tough, who smokes heavily, overworks constantly and survives on junk food. When she flips into her Working Man mode, she moves at triple her usual pace and forgets about everything else. Yet for all her success on the job, romance is missing from her life, and she will gladly leave early whenever a date comes up. The catch: her boyfriend is even more consumed by work than she is. The result is a comedy and drama about office life and love, mixing slice-of-life humor with romance.
