The island stops being a mystery and starts being a furnace. Season 2 cranks the animation to a level most shonen wouldn't risk, every frame dripping with color and weight while characters get torn apart in ways that actually register as cost. You're watching two factions collide on cursed ground where the only rule is that nobody leaves alive, and the show moves through that carnage with the precision of someone who knows exactly what they're building toward.

Gabimaru and Sagiri push deeper into the island, where the hunt for the key to the Elixir of Life leads their group to the stronghold of the Tensen, the monstrous beings who rule the place. Getting off the island alive means condemned criminals and executioners have to work together. Back on the mainland, the shogunate sends more parties to land on the island under Shugen Yamada Asayemon. Among them is the Ishigakure clan, who have a history with Gabimaru. As Gabimaru and his companions take on the Tensen, the fight grows into open war between humans and immortals in this supernatural action mystery.
